A small home, a warm harbour

On July 1, 2024, the twenty-seventh anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China, the “Hong Kong Inner Mongolia CPPCC Members - Hohhot Love Home” officially began operation. The project was initiated by Monita Mo, a standing member of the Inner Mongolia CPPCC from Hong Kong, funded by fellow Hong Kong-based Inner Mongolia CPPCC members, and jointly operated by the Beijing Tongxinyuan Charity Foundation and the Inner Mongolia People’s Hospital.

Families in financial difficulty who come to Hohhot for treatment can now stay in Love Home free of charge, enjoying safe and comfortable accommodation while also receiving broader forms of support that reduce economic pressure and help them focus on treatment and recovery.

Warming both the body and the heart

Love Home is built around a welcoming apartment near the hospital that can host several families at once. It includes a shared kitchen, small household appliances, cooking tools, sterilising lamps, disinfection cabinets and other everyday necessities. The project pays particular attention to children being treated away from home for leukaemia, malignant tumours, heart disease and other major illnesses.

By the end of May 2024, the broader Love Home network had already covered 36 districts in 17 cities across China, serving 8,847 families and more than 20,000 people with close to 100,000 nights of safe rest. It has also expanded into related public-interest initiatives such as the Smile Club, Dream Fulfilment Plan, Star Dream Classroom and Sunshine Education Support.

Caring for national development through public service

With the Hohhot Love Home now in operation, Monita Mo has already started planning additional locations. She has said she hopes to bring Love Home to wherever patients need it most, while also encouraging more Hong Kong-based Inner Mongolia CPPCC members to take part in charitable action.
